Grout Sealing: Things to Consider

Because they naturally trap dirt, the grouts on the floor get stained easily. If they are not cleaned regularly, the dirt accumulated will solidify making it hard to be removed by regular mopping. To maintain the cleanliness and beauty of their floors, homeowners must have some basic knowledge on grout sealing. Grout can be described as the area between the tiles that hold them together. Basically, they serve as the tiles’ adhesive. Moisture and dirt are two of the most common grout damage causes. This is why it is important to ensure your floor grouts are always clean. One of the ways you can achieve this is having the grout line sealed by professionals.

Grouts sealing tips

There are some things you should take into consideration when you are sealing grout lines. The first is making sure the grout sealant you buy has the same color as your tiles or floor. The content of the sealant also has to be considered. Read the label to ensure the sealant does not have any chemicals that are harsh to the floors or tiles. If you want to do the sealing process on your own, start by making sure you have moved all the furniture in order to ensure it does not impede the process. Before you begin the sealing process, make sure you clean the grout lines with a clean towel or rag.

Grout seals that are commonly available in the market are usually a bit thick, white in color and dense. To begin the sealing grouts process, you need to use the applicator for placing the seal product into the lines of grout. Follow by pressing the line to seal it. Make sure the whole grout line has been sealed. A little amount of sealant can be spilled which is quite normal and should not worry you. As much as you are supposed to avoid this, unavoidable accidents do occur. Just wash or wipe it away if the spill is small. Make sure you do this immediately to avoid causing irreparable damage to the tiles. Leave the sealant for about 24 hours so that it hardens after you have sealed a portion of your grouts. Generally, DIY sealing can last for about a year.

Liquid grout sealant

Liquid grout sealants can be defined as grout sealants which are in liquid form. These types of sealants can be used to seal grout by spraying instead of applying. It is the best type of sealant to use when working with either ceramic or glazed tiles. What you can do is spray the sealant over tiles and just leave it to dry and settle. You ceramic glazed tiles will be protected from moisture once the sealant has dried up. Paste sealants are quite harder to use when compared to liquid grout sealing products. Again, you should not forget to read the label of liquid grout sealants to ensure they do not have any harsh chemicals capable of damaging your floors and tiles.
